Fork Fest is a FREE festival that is happening in American Fork, UT. Pretty excited about it really. My band will be playing on the Main Stage around 3pm. And again the best part about this whole this is that its free, coupled with unbelievably good weather and friends, you really cant beat this.

On top of the killer music there will be local artists and artisans who will be selling and displaying art all around the area.

again, i'll bring the otter pops...

Family came down for the 4th. Ima' a huge fan of my family. Sister Amanda just had a baby named him a mans name, Henry. We just hung out and watched henry do his thing. ate food and enjoyed one another's company. a good 4th to date if i do say so.

Part of me is glad that we now have infants to keep us occupied at family gatherings. Its always comforting to know that we have something to distract us from getting into drawn out, long discussion/arguments about the current state of our economy, how BP affixed a new cap on the Gulf oil well,how GOP's Snowe & Brown back Wall Streets overhaul bill, or how Kelsey Grammer reportedly dumped his wife of 13 years via a text message. Needless to say Henry and Owen couldn't have come at a better time, when you start preparing for a case and point argument about how old militants in Pakistan are starting to create new alliances and how this effects The good ol U S of A three weeks in advance, you definitely need something to distract...

So i am home. Pretty epic trip. Met a load of good people and had some crazy experiences like being homeless and sleeping in a city park with a bunch of homeless people, meeting two NSA and CIA agents, riding for a week and a half in the worst storm that Washington and Oregon has had all year, a few broken bike parts, the best farmers tan ever, and legs disproportionate to the rest of my body... all in all a good time. I will probably try and type up some of the better stories later so look for them!

So i got wicked good with the timer on my camera.

Just got into Crescent City last night in torrents of rain. This rain is running me down, slowly but surely. Looks at the weather coming up though and i dont think i have ever been more stoked to see a weather report in my life. The weather for the next few days of my trip...

But! things are going well for the most part. My welcome into California was a broken seat post... i must be pounding to many carbs, or all my gear is suspended from my seat post you can choose what to believe. which is rough i was afraid that i was going to have to fork out a load of cash for a new one but when i went into this TINY bike shop in Crescent City the dude just gave me one he has just recently salvaged... so rad.

I have met some rad people as well. Last night i was suppose to stay with a friends oarents here but things didnt work out for some reason. Anyways i met these guys on the road yesterday. and retired secret service dude, when i asked what he did he gave me the classic answer of if i told you i would have to kill you and i am tired so i am just not going to tell you. and the other a buddy of his from the military. super cool guys. They baught me dinner and let me stay with them in there hotel room which was epic considering the weather. we also met up with this dude who has been hiking the coast he stayed with us too. good people for sure. a little strange but good.

my time at the library is almost up so i am out for now. I am alive and doing well...

So..... first Bike log. 3am.

Bad news. So final preparations for the trip down the coast. We are at Carters house doing a final check on all our gear when from the other room, I hear Dave quite calmly proclaim that he needs to go to the hospital, with no hardcore ugency in his voice i thought it was joke till i walked in and saw this:

THen to this after an hour of sewing up arteries and cleaning it...

So, sadly i will be riding for the most part by myself. Dave goes in for surgery to fix the tendons that were cut(x2) on wednesday. I will leave on friday a little ways down the coast.

So Dave was cutting open a box with our brand new pump insided when the knife which was much sharper than he had expected slipped and lodged itself into is hand cutting through two tendons and one artery. It was pretty epic (we had to clean blood off of the ceiling!) when it happened though, just getting done with the MCAT he was giving us very specific instructions on what we needed to do when he passed out, which he did, and also what we needed to do when he woke up again(which he also did.) Paramedics came a little after he woke up and took it from there. crazy. no lost fingers which is good!

Pretty epic first update i'd say.

I spend way to much time up here. I've realized that i am a much better at keeping this thing updated when i work a lot and its the off season at Sundance.

All things aside I consider my self very lucky to work in a place that is so absurdly beautiful, that despite how long i have worked here i still rubber neck when i drive up this canyon.

And now for something completely different.

I got a new bike which i am super stoked on, i have always road biked, and downhill Mountain biked. So i decided to broaden my horizens. So now i can bike up the mountain then ride down it. this may sound terribly simple and obvious, but so appealing.

"Sometimes, plans change at the last minute. Wednesday morning the president decided to hit the gym in Des Moines. Reporters waited next door at a coffee and comic book shop. That's where we spotted a comic book called Barack the Barbarian.

The cover showed a shirtless Obama, abs rippling, holding a battle ax in one hand and an elephant tusk in the other. Sitting on top of the elephant was his nemesis, Red Sarah, laughing maniacally. I bought the comic and some of the White House staff asked to see it.

Back on Air Force One, when we were done with the serious questions, I decided to ask spokesman Bill Burton about Barack the Barbarian. He'd seen the comic book. "I liked it," he said, "because it had few words and lots of pictures, which made it easy to understand."

Check it out, I'm riding from Canada to Mexico come the end of May. I am super stoked on this. 1900 miles+80 per day+camping for a month+good company+beautiful coastal/redwood scenery+complete and total self containment=pure and unadulterated goodness...

New York is for lovers.

During the summer my buddy Llyr called me up with news of cheap plane tickets. so we bought them, and forgot about them until about a week before we were scheduled to fly out. Glad i didnt forget about it because it turned out to be one super good trip. only problem is i dont want to be in Utah anymore because of it. We flew out of SLC to Chicago, then to Philly. Went and saw Andrew Bird (seriously check him out he is amazing) at the Electric Factory in Downtown Philadelphia, had some Cheese stakes, then took a bus to New York where my trip went as follows.

I Have heard of Jackson hole in myths and legends and being a watering hole for the adventure seeker who is also looking for good summer money... these be not myths or nor legends, i say unto thee they be truth!

That is of course if you live in a van.

I saved nearly 2000 dollars this summer with this little investment. One thing that the legends dont talk about is how grossly overpriced rent is. Got this beaut from the Salt Lake City School district for 300 bucks. Tore everything out and made it my home.

I think the best part about it was my job. I worked as a photographer at Spring Creek Ranch, a super ritzy resort on top of a hill with the best view of the tetons as well as Jackson Hole.

With that, sometimes i would be up taking photos of guests riding horses when torrents of rain would come out of no where, like those rashes on your arms after riding the subway in Chicago. Anyways, the last thing these really really rich people want to do is ride all the way down in the rain and hail, so i would offer my home to these good people. Imagine someone who is paying 800 dollars a night for a room at this palce climbing into my van and seeing a bed, coffee table, love seat, bookself, framed photos on the wall, painted walls, carpeted floors and good feelings all in one small cargo van.

Needless to say it was amusing to tell them to wipe there feet before they came into the living room.

Did this sweet relay awhile back. Arguably one of the more enjoyable things i have done it awhile. Staying up for ungodly hours on end driving through some of the most beautiful scenery Utah has to offer and running endlessly.

187 Miles through 3 national parks 8000 feet in elevation change, and one helluva good time.

The real deal. These are the guys who make people like Tim McGraw and all those faces in Nashville look good. This was at the Blue Bird Cafe at Sundance Resort in Utah. Every week three songwriters come and play. It's cool to see the real thing, the real people who are writing these songs and the real stories of where these songs come from.

The Black Cat hostel in Antigua

Insanity, pure insanity. This was a hostel we stayed at in Antigua, Guatemala. This can only accurately be described if you have see one of two movies, The first ninja turtles where you see the Shreaders hide out where there are all the boys running around doing whatever they want, smoking playing poker, all the oldest sins done in the newest ways. Or possibly Hansels loft in Zoolander, which is along the same lines of the Ninja Turtles. Be it one or the other it was an incredibly interesting Hostel.

The Holi Festival of Colors. I was having an internal conflict with going to this- I had an chance to go down tot L.A. and take some Photos, but I am so glad I didn't. What I probably enjoyed most about this whole event was the fact that everyone there got a heavy dose of culture while never really leaving Utah. Seriously, you feel like you are kickin' it in Thailand or some South East Asian oasis.

Honestly, I'm not sure how many times I have driven by this terribly uniform group of trees, or how many times I've thought to stop and take pictures , or what made Seth and I actually stop this time. We did and it was cool. Not too much to report, I still dont have anything to report as to why they are there or what purpose they serve, besides giving contrast to the ugly nothingness outside of Jarome, ID.

I find it interesting how quickly we forget our foundation. Albion is a little town about 20 miles outside of Burley Idaho. Nothing special about it on the outside besides a clique diner in the heart of town that is the hot spot not because of a lack of things to do, but because it has some of the best damn burgers this side of the snake river.

Places like this seem to get lost in translation as time goes on. I would have never known that a greater part of the generation that founded Idaho attended the bulk of the schooling here in this po dunk little town.

I was hired to take some photos of it in the process of being renovated into a resort spot. How terribly depressing is that? I saw where my Great Grandparents washed dishes to put themselves through college for a teaching degree, where they slept, and where they attended class. All that I saw were crude spray painted images of male genitalia and curse words on the interior, and half burned foundations and rotting lawns on the exterior.

It will be interesting to see what happens with it when all is said and done. Whether or not it will help out the economy that currently is about as active as a morbidly obese Aphrodisiac who wants it's but is too fat to get it. Or if it will just keep getting fatter and fatter, until the desire melts away into nothing.

Pictures like this one are few and far between, not because of the composition or the lighting or any portion of the logistical part taking a photos, but because of the emotion that is frozen in time. Sometimes as a photographer, your just lucky that you happened to press the button at just the right time when those endorphins in that persons brain are release and creates a pure and unadulterated smile.
